Duckweed (aka Itchy) FIV+
Duckweed (aka Itchy) FIV+ has found his forever home!
Itchy is about the sweetest old man you will ever meet. He loves dogs, kids, other cats, and LOTS of SNUGGLES!
Itchy came into Newberg Animal Shelter as a stray in pretty bad shape. He was covered in fleas and lice. He had to be shaved, but it is starting to grow back nicely. He had a severe upper respiratory infection, was significantly dehydrated and emaciated, and he tested positive for FIV.
Our loving team and Newberg Vet Hospital have spent the past 4 months nursing him back to health. He has gained over 2#, cleared his upper respiratory infection, and is flea and lice free. He is still FIV positive. There is no cure for that.
Because Itchy is FIV positive, he will need to go to a home without other cats or with other FIV positive cats. He will also need to stay an indoor only kitty, so that we don’t risk spreading the disease any further.
All potential adopters should talk to their vet about what to expect with an FIV kitty before inquiring about adopting him.
Newberg Animal Shelter is currently doing all adoptions by appointment only. After you have spoken with your vet about FIV, if you are interested in adopting Itchy, please call the shelter to schedule an appointment. (503) 554-9285
