Support our shelter animals and receive tax benefits with a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)!
What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD, allows individuals age 70½ or older to transfer funds directly from their IRA to a qualified charity. The amount transferred (up to the annual limit) is excluded from your taxable income and, if you are subject to required minimum distributions (RMDs), the QCD can count toward satisfying your RMD for the year.
What is the Eligibility?
Each spouse can make an individual QCD if they are age 70½ or older at the time of the distribution.
What is the Annual Limit?
For 2026, each eligible spouse can exclude up to $111,000 per year from taxable income via QCDs.
How to Make a QCD?
- Contact your IRA custodian and request a direct transfer from your IRA to the qualified charity. The funds must go directly to the charity—if you receive the funds first, it will not qualify as a QCD. Custodian should mail to NASF Address: 901 Brutscher St, Ste D, PMB #107, Newberg, OR, 97132.
- Ensure the charity is a qualified 501(c)(3) organization. Newberg Animal Shelter Friends is a nonprofit charity listed in Candid.
- Obtain a written acknowledgment from the charity for your records. You can contact us for this acknowledgement at board@newberganimals.com.
- When you receive your Form 1099-R, report the total IRA distribution on your tax return, but only the non-QCD portion will be taxable.
Why give a Qualified Charitable Distribution?
